The project for using heavy gas residue, delivered via the Power of Siberia, may become one of the most ambitious and high-return in Russia and unprecedented globally.
The projected cooperation of Gazprom and Sibur will account for the construction of gas processing facility, which will specialise in heavy residue withdrawal from gas aimed for China and its further delivery to Sibur’s gas processing plant to convert it into tons of useful products. Whereas the pure methane left will head over to China.
The 5 products yielded within the first stage include helium, ethane, propane, butane, and pentane-hexane fraction. While helium, being the inert and reactionless gas, will be used separately, the rest elements will be a great feedstock for the production of plastic materials, wide range of solvents, detergents, ethers, and braking fluids… The list may go on, but it is already obvious that the gas processing plant will both process the second-order feedstock, and promote the development of domestic companies specialised in final products based on chemical intermediates mentioned above. The value of this project can be hardly overstated for both new employment opportunities in the Far East, and entire Russian economy growth at large.
